ARTISTS / TRACKS / LINKS
PHI SEQUENCE – Falling

Falling
My most well-liked and well-received track on Soundclick. I thought about what it would be like to suddenly be pried from the belly of a plane and thrust out into the open a few miles from the ground. What would it sound like if you fell this great distance plummeting towards earth.

About – Phi Sequence
Solo, environmental, spacey, ambient, and dreamy, with some good beats and a little funkiness thrown in for good measure. Sometimes described as chaotic and manic. Always created out of love for form and ambience. You might like it, you might not. But you're always welcome to delve under the surface and see.
CIRCA – I know It’s Nothing
http://www.myspace.com/circapop
About circa
"circa" is the song based synth pop and 80's music influenced side project of "co-ordination." "circa" seemed to be the ideal name for this project as the songs were written and produced anytime between 1994 and now. In fact, some were written in 1994 but never sung until 2005 (when vocal auto tuning software was cheap enough to convince you that I can actually sing).
NASH THE SLASH – Shock Treatment
http://www.nashtheslash.com
http://www.myspace.com/officialnashtheslash

Shock Treatment is from the 1999 album Thrash.
About Nash –
Nash the Slash has been creating his unique concept of sound and vision for over twenty years. His first live presentation of music to film was a performance to the surreal silent film Un Chien Andalou at the Roxy Theatre in Toronto.
Nash the Slash was born of silent film. The name comes from a killer butler encountered by Laurel and Hardy in their first film, Do Detectives Think (1927). Nash the musician has gone on to create the music scores for such recent cult films as Roadkill and Highway 61, both directed by Bruce McDonald.
Between experiments with film and music, Nash the Slash became a familiar name to music fans through his association with the pop electronic group FM. Having co-written the hit songs Phasors on Stun and Just Like You, Nash established his credibility as a versatile artist. His talents have been recognized with a U-KNOW (later called CASBY) award for best instrumental artist as well as a Juno nomination for best new male vocalist. Nash's profile was raised on the international stage when he toured the world with the likes of Gary Numan and Iggy Pop. Other high-profile shows include opening for The Who at C.N.E. Stadium in Toronto to a crowd of 70,000 people and opening for The Tubes at a sold-out Maple Leaf Gardens.
Nash has recently recorded new music for the silent film classics The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1919), The Lost World (1925), and most recently his highly successful soundtrack to Nosferatu (1922), which he performed at the SKIF Music Festival in St. Petersburg, Russia. Nash continues to do unique film scores for other silent film classics, such as the original Phantom of the Opera.
Nash has released numerous solo albums, the best known being Children of the Night with the hit single Dead Man's Curve. Other albums include Decomposing, the first record playable at any speed (reviewed in Playboy Magazine, 1982); and American Bandages, a collection of all-American classics such as We're an American Band, Who Do You Love, and Psychotic Reaction.
You can find a detailed biography (1975 - 1979 / 1980 - 1989 / 1990 – 1999 / 2000 - ????) on the website http://www.nashtheslash.com/news/
New CD was released in March 2008!
IN-A-GADDA-DA-NASH

A collection of old cover songs for a new generation! Nash won't say why he did these songs, and few people can name the original artists. Suffice to say, the songs all have that 'Nash Touch' that brings out the raw essence of each track.
The songs are being added one at a time on http://www.myspace.com/officialnashtheslash Get a sneak preview of In-A-Gadda-Da-Nash now!
Coming Soon - Re-mastered ‘Blind Windows’. Nash's first recordings (1978-79) pumped to the max!
Nash Is Hot For Cold Blood!
Nash is currently composing the music soundtrack for a new crime re-enactment TV show called Cold Blood'. There will be 10 one-hour episodes and this project will take at least six months to complete. The show premieres in Canada on Global and in the UK on Channel 5 in September 2008.
KINETIK - Modem Musique
http://www.kinetik.fsnet.co.uk
http://www.myspace.com/kinetik1974

Kinetik were formed in 1994, evolving from the remains of Elektro-Kinetik, a band who had made a name for themselves through some well received sets at the Blackpool Kraftwerk Conventions in 1993 and 1994 where they played a selection of the Dusseldorfer's best loved tracks and attracted much praise from the attendees and electronic music press. Colin Jordan was born in London but moved to Pembrokeshire, Wales in 1984 to escape the big city bustle. Electronic Music had already made a big impression on him via the discovery of J.M. Jarre's 'Oxygene' in 1977 and soon discovered other influential artistes such T. Dream and Klaus Schulze. After purchasing a Korg MS10 synthesizer in 1980, Colin quickly built up an arsenal of (mainly analogue) gear and formed his first band 'Axxent Opaque' in the early 1980's. In 1985 Colin met up with Shirleyann Davies, a Pembrokeshire based woodwind teacher at a local music club in Tenby, West Wales. Shirleyann at the time was a successful woodwind soloist often playing on both radio and Welsh T.V. The two surprisingly found they shared an admiration for Kraftwerk and electronic music (Shirleyann had also purchased a Korg MS10 in the early 80's !). Spurred on by this, the pair began to collaborate on their own brand of music which eventually led through Paul Wilkinson, a mutual friend to an invitation to perform a set of Kraftwerk material at the conventions in Blackpool. Elektro-Kinetik was thus formed and was joined initially by David England (a much acclaimed artist who still contributes to Kinetik's CD artwork and computer graphics) as a guest on electronic percussion for the 1993 convention. In 1994, Simon Darvell, a music technology student stepped into David's shoes playing percussion and electric guitar ( ! ) for the following year's convention which pioneered the band's technique of synchronising computer generated images to their live music.
Kinetik's latest studio album MODEM TIMES (KCD10), based upon the
themes of communication and digital technology, is available to buy from their website.

Being connected. The world evolves at the same time as your own connections, to form complex network. Parts connect parts and elements of all kinds and all of it is shared. It will be spread all over the environment and landscapes in all shapes, sizes, canvas or technologies. . 2008 is necessary to expand not only music itself though, but ideals of multi-cultural interaction. - ZOON VAN SNOOK - The Gloaming
http://www.myspace.com/zoonvansnook
About Zoon Van Snook
After pending some time smear testing peacocks for the Lebanese government, I realized at the age of 24 that the truth was stranger, that is to say less prevalent, than fiction. I interpreted this to mean that it is fine to lie and subsequently bullshitted my way through the interview and before long they trusted me enough to leave me alone with the bodies!.......prison, is indeed, also stranger than fiction. A short period of my life was spent as a cartoon tramp in an attempt to try and solve the social issue of 2 dimensional sexual apathy among the flat-less. Up until this point, my life was like a badly written screenplay for a film about fuck all". The personal failings documented above (Taken from ‘The Chronicles of Zoon Van’ by T. Mallon) have led to and informed the compositions you are currently listening to. After prostituting his keyboard wares to numerous bands in the South west, the summer of 2007 saw ZVS taking bold measures in stepping out alone. A passion for Genre-Spanning melody, field recordings, found sound and electronics combined with the utility of guerrilla techniques (encompassing household objects) has spat ZVS face first into the sphere of criticism in the creation of affably sinister sonic sketches and ambionic audio montage. Currently working or collaborating with Malakai, Canola Tenderfoot, New Acoustics, Diego Chavez... So roll up for a musical journey of jousting and Onanism.

A leap into the unknown

Mark Richardson of Age of Jets
Try and picture the love child of The Beta Band, Blur and Devo. Yes, that Devo. Welcome to the Age of Jets.
This electro-pop quartet, fronted by thirty-five year-old Hull, England native Mark Richardson is anything but ordinary. Compa- risons to Brian Eno and German electronic duo Kraftwerk created a buzz around the band four years ago that booked gigs at various venues throughout England, spurred the beginnings of a small following and got them signed to London's Damaged Goods, a label also home to The Buzzcocks and Adam and the Antz. So with all this momentum, what Richardson did next, may come as a surprise. He moved to Japan and became an English teacher. "I came to Japan with the mindset of staying here," says Richardson, who has been in Osaka just over three years working as a high school ALT.
"I became interested in the history of Japan a few years ago. Since Japan and England are both island nations, I think that there's a similar mentality, yet a different character in both places." As Richardson prepared to leave behind his family, friends and job as an interior designer, he also had to prepare for the daunting task of leaving behind his second family, the former members of his band, who had inspired him to get into music in the first place.
"I always knew I wanted to be up there on stage," says Richardson, who only started playing guitar at the age of 25. "I was really fortunate that the friends around me went to record shops and looked for music that wasn't run of the mill." It was this early influence with experimental music that inspired Richardson and his mates to form their first band ten years ago called Summerbee, named after an English football player. While rummaging through the apartment of former Summerbee band mate Paul Sarel, Richardson found a stack of fictional band posters that Sarel had created as a hobby. Among those posters was one titled Age of Jets. "I thought it was a cool poster and we were looking for a modern name that reflected a modern sound," says Richardson.

Thus the Age of Jets was born. Though the Jets first album Go Go Gadget Pop was mainly guitar-driven, Richardson's move to Osaka meant that plans for a second album would have to be put on hold. The result has been as Richardson describes it: "a darker, moodier album with an 80s retro feel, reflected greatly in the catchy new single 'Robotboy'. "I've got a fascination with robots," laughs Richardson. 'The whole idea of robots controlling so many facets of our lives inspires me and fits in with our sound." The current Jets are now looking for a label in Japan to release their sophomore disc, Music by Numbers.
Richardson chose to come to Osaka over Tokyo for its friendly reputation and being from a town of 300,000 himself, he also preferred a smaller-town vibe. However, selling an electronic band in a place where language barriers are a constant factor has proven to be a challenge. "As a foreigner in a foreign country, it is harder to promote your- self," says Richardson. "There is a bigger audience here, but it's harder to capture." But Richardson and his band mates keep plugging away because for them music is "more than a hobby." The Jets are trying to maintain their original fan base in the UK and raise their profile in Japan, so they can play festivals like Fujirock or Summersonic. With a solid base of songs for their follow-up album, new friend- ships with established Japanese bands like Tokyo's Polysics and a few upcoming gigs in the New Year, it looks like the future is bright for this young band. And Richardson is enjoying the journey.

For Those who don't know who the real Fardoche is, it doesn't really matter. But this Fardoche is a French Quebecer producer-slash-mouse-clicker-slash-bedroom-knob-fidgeter with no extravagant story to tell, beside that he loves red wine & cheese. About The music, Some say that his stuff sound simply f***** weird, other say that it sound like a softened vinyl that was found under the sun in a back alley. Nevertheless, his sound is not clean as electro house nor nasty as French crunchy electro but perhaps a better creative term to name it would be: electro-farm. And to push the analogy further, it would be electro-dilapidated-old-farm style, with all its flaws and faulty features that an old farm can hold next to a dirt road. Disfunctionnal, unique and charming. Fardicge like to use computer generated voice(c.g.v.), beatbox, moog & sampler like characters in his tunes. C.g.v.'s are treated respectfully like real comedians. They sound a little bizarre but are friendly and very cooperatives to delivers Fardoche absurd stories on the imaginary stage. It's a nice and unorthodox way to discover the Quebec French humor culture. If you don't speak French, no worries, Fardoche will translate the pertinent dialogs to text on his the next coming album that he's presently working on. Fardoche is also working on other projects under different aliases doing all sort of electronic music. But that’s an other bedtime story.
