My name is Ali Chaudhry and I represent Anglesey Ward on East Staffordshire Borough Council.
This blog is to keep you updated with news, issues and events in Anglesey. These are my personal views only.
The CCTV camera installation at Queen Street and Uxbridge Street is nearly complete as reported in my last blog.
All the civils installation i.e. the mast and cabinet is in place but just need the power and BT cables to wire up the camera to the control room.
The utilities industry is so fragmented with many departments and contractors that one can easily get lost in the bureaucracy. I think it is a familiar experience with utilities companies and most of us have been there.
Hopefully the camera should be operational in around couple of weeks.
After a short delay, the installation of CCTV camera at the Uxbridge Street & Queen Street Junction is nearly complete. The camera mast is installed along with a cabinet which I presume is for power and communication cables. Apparently the camera is connected through BT cables.
We just need the camera now. Hopefully we should have an operational camera linked to CCTV control room shortly.
The King Street is very difficult to sweep as it very narrow and there are always parked cars. Lack of sweeping and lots of loose stones from surface dressing meant that the street was looking untidy.
Last week with the help of the wardens 90% of the vehicles were moved and the street was swept thoroughly. This has really lifted the King Street visibly. I have received positive comments from the residents.
The Anglesey PACT meeting will be held on Wednesday 10 June 09 at 7.00pm at Queen Street Community Centre. The PACT meetings are held monthly.
The residents raise issues and problems in their streets and neighbourhoods and they also receive update on progress on previous issues.
The County Council election results are disastrous for Labour. For a party in majority with 32 seats, Labour has only secured 3 seats, 2 of which are in Burton.
Too many good and hardworking Councillors have lost their seats. The tragedy is that the MPs' expenses scandal and ministerial resignations dominated these elections. It was almost impossible to talk about the real local issues and pledges.
I think this is the low point and it can only get better for Labour locally. We have 2 very good County Councillors in Burton. Both Peter Beresford and Peter Davies along with a very dedicated and committed Labour team, will work tirelessly for the thousands of people who supported and voted for the Labour Party.
