If you have the time, check my old blogs, there are some gems.
Haven't blogged for ages, have I, thought I'd better update for my fans and friends : )
Apparently I've lost a load of weight since I started cycling to work, the security guard didn't recognise me recently from my photoId and had to ask me some security questions! I am truly a master of disguise ;-)
I only cycled one day last week and my rear brake decided it had had enough and fell apart. So on Saturday, I brought it back to Tesco's where I bought it and got it replaced. Tesco's are usually really good about exchanging goods under warranty, but this time I had to fight tooth and nail for my statutory consumer rights! Proud of myself now and I have a shiny new bike too.
I've also read all the Harry Potter books again, I think that's the third time, and watched all the movies. I'm getting a little obsessive about magic, need to watch myself there.
Looking forward to Christmas, yeah, I know it isn't even Hallowe'en yet but the shops are putting christmas selection boxes and advent calendars on the shelves and last night I saw Coca-Cola's new Christmas/Disney commercial.... that's capitalism for ya, but its good to start the Christmas shopping early, or at least to start putting the money away. I have booked flights back to my parents and booked 3 weeks Annual Leave from work over the festive season. I don't think I've had the Christmas spirit in my system so early before... its probably down to Global Warming... or terrorists... or the millenium bug...or aliens...or immigrants...
Its an ornithopter, a remote controlled cyber-dragonfly with a built in camera. I reckon its cool. It could be used to great effect for finding people in an office block if it worked with security gates, a useful way of delivering important messages to people who aren't at their desks, by way of circling around randomly with an RFID scanner. Or if you're a megavillian, you could fit it with a tiny hypodermic lance with a range of neurotoxins or tranquilizers. Mwahahahahaha.
Happy Humpday everyone.

Look at this, isn't it magnificent?
If only it was 10 times larger and 10 times less expensive I would surely have it.
Then I would have the world....
I've bought a bike and I've put my car up for sale. From now on my commute will be by bike, this is my resolution. Cars are so expensive to run and getting moreso with each passing year. Cycling isn't coming easy to me though, I did a dry run last night and the bike chewed up its own chain and had my backside for dessert ( ouch those saddles are hard!) But with a little tenacity I was able to get back on the road.
I know from my childhood that I have self-discipline and perserverence, even though it can be hard to find sometimes, so I'm going to keep biking it until it affects me professionally (i.e. if it results in me losing my job from bad timekeeping or passing out at my desk.
)
Once my car is sold there will be no turning back and if I have to go anywhere I can't take my bike, I will have saved enough to use the public transport or to rent a car. The next time I move home, I will rent a van.
Aside from my tenderised loins and burning thighs, the ride was really enjoyable. I got back to nature, there was plenty of fresh air on the country roads. The more people who follow my example the less cars there will be on the road and the safer it will be for me. Perhaps it is good then, from my point of view at least, that the petrol prices are sky-rocketing.
I've also been running a lot, not on pavements or roads though, that's bad for the joints. There is a playing field in town and I go there to jog. On Saturday I ran 10 laps of the field, about 8kms according to my step counter. I was really pleased with myself and glad I overcame the fear and humiliation of being seen in public in a state of exhaustion. Once I was panting I lost interest in what people might be saying about me. Up until recently I haven't done much exercise at all and according to the NHS bmi scale I am obese. I always used to think obesity meant being so huge you couldn't live a normal life but it actually has a fairly broad definition. I'm 15 stone and 5' 8" and not muscular, at least I was the last time I registered with a doctor. In my opinion weight isn't a good indication of health, muscle is heavier than fat. The best indicator is your appearance and then you can check your fat content.
