Contrary to popular belief I'm not actually a jellyish. I'm currently living in Taiwan whilst teaching English at a uni.

Taken from Lavender forest at dusk, Tao-Yuan, Taiwan.

The sky became an enchanting shade of blue.

The moon was full , bathing the valley and hills in soft light.

An old tree
An old tree magnify

This tree is almost two thousand and five hundred years old. Elegantly leaning downhill, it's roots are incredibly strong.

I saw this tree when visiting the Ali-mountain area of Taiwan, this area has beautiful forests, ancient trees and stunning scenery. Even getting to the Ali-Mountain area is amazing as you need to take an old Japanese red train to get there. The train takes around three to four hours, you start off by passing through rice fields and pineapple plantations, then you start climbing the mountains lowest sub-tropical forests and bamboo groves, finally you reach the alpine forests and their ancient trees.

I think this was the first time I tasted real honey, there was a little store set up not too far from the tree I've photographed, which sold some local products such as honey, tea and wild wasabe. The honey had a distinct almost sharp taste to it, of course it was sweet but it had more to it than your normal super market variety, perhaps the altitude somehow affected my taste buds but I still think that's the best honey I've ever tasted.

Dreaming about fish.
Dreaming about fish. magnify

I was in Eastern European city with my parents and a childhood friend that I haven't seen for over 10 years. The place looked very Asian, almost like Taipei as every street corner had a convenience store, the buildings were fairly high rise and the traffic was pretty bad. We walked along until I walked passed a pet store. In the front window there were various fish tanks and bowls, my parents and friend were walking ahead of me. I then started to notice that the fish were all unhealthy, miserably so. One gold fish had gone white and translucent in places, I could even see it's heart pulsing, the next fish bowl along had a puffer-fish in it, there was barely enough water to keep the thing submerged, it was flapping as hard as it could, it kept spinning and bobbing around. My family were now calling for me to catch up. I kept looking at the fish, it's eyes were looking straight at me, in them I could see fear, I felt sick. My parents and friend physically dragged me along. The rest of the dream was pretty mundane.

A week later I visited Japan, I came across a toy stall, something drew my attantion. It was a small fish bowl with a beady eyed toy puffer-fish, it was bobbing and spinning around. It made me remember my dream. I didn't buy it - I wish I had though, as I can't remember if it really happened or not.

One step back, two steps forward.
One step back, two steps forward. magnify

I don't know why I spend so much time organising my life, my routine and my daily habits? I often just get the urge to drop everything and move on. It's become a bad habit of mine, building things up, making friends, making contacts then just dropping them all and moving on. Of course some things stay the same, like my family being my family and my preference in living some where close to the sea or a river of some sort (although right now I'm living slap bang in the middle of Taipei) I guess with Taiwan being an island you're never really all that far from the sea.

Even when I was at university to doing my art degree I had a similar situation with my work; whatever I painted I would just paint over again and again and again, at the end of the three years I didn't have as much work to show for as I should have, all thanks to this habit of mine. Anyway, I don't paint anymore, it's too much of an expensive hobby; perhaps in a few years I'll give it another go. Perhaps that was some kind of punishment for being selfish and spending my university years painting and getting pissed. Na - probably not.

I don't know, some people seem to keep the same circle of friends their whole life, the same job, the same routine. Sometimes I wish I had more of a routine, but as soon as I get one it starts changing, and then it's just gone, like a good idea you thought of the night before. Just recently I decided to cut or should I say distance a few people . I thought they were asking too much of me, getting too dependent , so I showed them politely to the door and then bolted it shut, is that selfish? I guess some people take more than they give - I can't stand this type of person; they remind me of parasites, feeding off your blood till they see a better host or til you're too sick to nurish them!

After the New Year.
After the New Year. magnify

Ok, I finally found the right photo for the right year!

After a quite disappointing Christmas I had no expectations regarding the New Year festivities! Never mind I though, I'll go and see the fireworks any way! Well it was just as well that I went! Jo and I were searching for a decent place to see the fireworks from and of course the streets were all packed out with probably millions of people. We managed to find a park (inside Guo Fu Ji Nian Guang), the one with a small lake; anyway, it was surprisingly less packed than other places, we made our way to the pagoda in the middle of the lake and were amazed by the spectacular firework display, at points the 101 almost looked like a giant Christmas tree! Getting back afterwards was a bit troublesome; however, we saw a group of Harry Krishnas ploughing through the streets like a dirty dog through a night-market, we decided to follow them as they were making there way down Xing-Yi road. They were singing some unusual songs - like Harry- Harry, Harry - haaaar. I was sure at one point they were singing Harry - ee's got a Ferrari, arri-arri, arri arrrrrrrrrrr! After a bit of singing and dancing we turned off on An-He road and ditched the Harrys.

New Years Resolutions:

1. Study Chinese at least 4 hours every day.

2. Get my hands on a Nintendo wii!
